I've been learning more of the places that are known for their craft beers in Colorado.
First a primer on Beer glossary:
The Glossary: A primer on beer terms. Basics from the videos.
- ABV: Alcohol by volume. Any thing sold in Colrado commercial purchasing cant' be abover 3.2 for things like grocery stores. Anything more than 10 will knock you on your arse.
- Barley is a type of grain commonly used in making malts.
- Malt... is the grain that has been soaked in water to germinate and is heated to quickly stop germination. This is what gives most diverse flavors in beer.
- YEAST: Key to much of beer. Is a fungus that catalyses sugars into malt in alcohol and carbon dioxide.
- this is what makes Golden, Colorado (Home of Coors/ Budweiser) smell delightful one part of the week and like rotten orange juice the next.
- Finally Hops using female hop plant flowers. (Flower power) is dried and used to provide beers' bitterness.
- Hence people calling a beer (Hopy)
